Life skills for the homeless
HOMELESS families in three south London boroughs are set to get help and advice on how to access training and employment.
The Stepping Up project, run by Broomleigh Housing Association, will offer homeless family members wanting to move back into work, or get some training, advice on how to fill in application forms, prepare a CV and practice their interview technique.
The scheme, which is free and is being funded through the London Councils’ European Social Fund co-financing programme, is available to any member of a homeless family living in the boroughs of Bromley, Croydon or Southwark as long as they are over the age of 20 and not currently in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance.
Michelle Williams-Manso, an employment outreach support officer for Broomleigh Housing Association, said: “The mission statement of the ‘Stepping Up’ programme is to help people make informed decisions about work, training and their educational choices, and allow them to gain a new perspective on the future. This programme will work to support all the other initiatives that the community investment team are already working on to help support and engage our residents.”
